About Mark Gear:
Mark Gear is one of the world’s leading ski instructors for off-piste skiing. He has many years experience having helped thousands of skiers improve their all-mountain and off-piste skiing skills. Based in Chamonix, France – the Mecca of off-piste skiing since 1996, Mark has extensive local knowledge and has also coached skiing throughout France and other alpine nations in Europe. Teaching skiing has been Mark’s life long career making him one of the most experienced professionals in the industry.
Mark is qualified to the highest international standard (level 4 ISTD) through BASI (British Association of Snowsport Instructors). He’s also been awarded the full French equivalent of their ski instructor diploma, (BEES I Ski Alpin) having passed the notoriously difficult giant slalom, speed test in France (Euro test).
Mark’s fun, innovative and professional teaching focuses on client’s personal goals, whilst including his unique methodology encouraging control, versatility and individual skier expression. Mark spent his youth skiing, racing and teaching on a dry ski slope in Essex before moving to Chamonix, France in 1995 to train to be a ski instructor in the Alps. After intensive training, in 2000 Mark became the first British qualified ski instructor to earn the right to work for a French ski school in the resort of Chamonix. Mark spent the following two winter seasons working as a ski instructor at the Evolution 2 ski school in Chamonix, whilst completing his final international ski teacher diploma in December 2003.
Mark founded All Mountain Performance in 2004, specialising in off-piste performance ski courses. Since then Mark has successfully opened the exciting realm off-piste skiing to thousands of skiers and is recognised in the industry as a leading provider of off piste ski instruction.
As well as coaching the recreational public, Mark has also been involved in the training of other ski instructors, competitors, high mountain guides and other mountain professionals. Mark’s ski coaching approach has earned him a renowned reputation for achieving excellent results with all levels.
